Algenio and Dugan are SASMO silver awardees

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathletes Xavier Algenio (Montserrat/8-Isore in SY 2020-2021) and Miggy Dugan (Montserrat/7-Goto in SY 2020-2021) are silver medalists in the Secondary 2 and Secondary 1 divisions, respectively, of the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), which was held online on May 15, 2021.

In the Secondary 2 division, Xavier emerged as the Olympiad’s #1 ranked mathlete from Ateneo de Manila Junior High School, the #11 ranked mathlete from the Philippines, and the #9 globally ranked mathlete among silver awardees.
In the Secondary 1 division, Miggy also emerged as the Olympiad’s #1 ranked mathlete from Ateneo de Manila Junior High School, the #18 ranked mathlete from the Philippines, and the #10 globally ranked mathlete among silver awardees.  

Created in 2006, SASMO is one of the largest math contests in Asia. It has expanded from 155 participants from Singapore in 2006 to more than 20,000 participants from 19 countries in SASMO 2016. With realistic and high standards, the SASMO aims to stretch the untapped thinking potential of participants by helping them improve their higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
