Bernardo is gold medalist + grade 9 overall champ of IJMO, and wins 2 silvers for PH in Vanda science tilt

Jimbo Bernardo  Representing the Philippines, Ateneo Junior High School mathlete Jimbo Bernardo of La Storta/10-Garnier won a gold medal and was named overall champion of the 3rd International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) grade 9 division. In addition, he also won two silver medals for the 1st ever Vanda Science Global Finals, one for the individual round and another for the team challenge. Per the press release of Asian Math-Sci League (AMSLI) Philippines, this was the first time these two competitions organized by the International Math Contests Centre (IMCC) were held under one event. The IJMO and Vanda competitions were held in the morning and afternoon of 27 July 2019, respectively, at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The awarding ceremony was held in the afternoon of July 29, 2019.
The 94-strong Philippine Team was comprised of 18 students competing at IJMO, 44 students competing in Vanda, and 32 students competing in both tilts. The double competition gathered 1,100 students from 20 countries around the world including Bahrain, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Iran, India, Indonesia, Laos, Maldives, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, USA, Uzbekistan and the Philippines.
