Dugan and Algenio win 4 medals for PH at MWB and SASMO

AJHS mathletes Miggy Dugan of Montserrat/7-Goto and Xavier Algenio of Montserrat/8-Isore won a combined total of four medals for the Philippines in the Singapore & Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), the Mathematics Without Borders (MWB) Spring Round, and the MWB Final Round. Miggy won two silvers for the SASMO and the MWB Final Round, while Xavier won two bronzes for the SASMO and the MWB Spring Round.

The MWB Spring Round had 4444 participants from 13 countries: Australia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Malta, North Macedonia, the Philippines, Romania, Slovenia, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. It was held online on June 20, 2020.


The MWB Final Round was held in Nessebar, Bulgaria, with 690 Bulgarian onsite contestants and another 930 contestants from 18 countries competing online from their own homelands. The countries which fielded contestants online were Afghanistan, Australia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgizstan, Macedonia, Malta, Nigeria, the Philippines, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

The SASMO was also held online on July 18, 2020. Its contestants came from Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates.
