Xavier Algenio is top-performing Filipino at Asia Math Olympiad

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo Junior High School mathlete Xavier Algenio of Montserrat/7-Harcourt won a gold medal (grade 6 division) and the Star of International Award at the Asia International Mathematics Olympiad (AIMO). His medal was one of only nine golds won by the Philippines at the AIMO, while his Star of International Award acknowledges that he was the top-performing Filipino in the competition. The math wizards who represented the Philippines garnered a total of nine gold, 28 silver, and 48 bronze medals in the AIMO, in addition to the 30 merit awards won in the individual contest. The AIMO was held in Taiwan from August 4 – 8, 2019, drawing hundreds of participants from Taiwan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau, Indonesia, Iran, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China, Thailand and Australia.
