AJHS golfer Maio Castañeda helps ASHS teammates take silver in golf championship

(L-R) Maio Castañeda, Riggs Illescas, Andoy Magalong, Ice Miravite Ateneo Senior High School Team 1 emerged as back to back team champion of the 2018 Junior Golfers Federation of the Philippines (JGFP) Interschool Golf Championship, Senior High School division last November 4, 2018. The team was comprised of Coby Rolida (ABM/12-Acquaviva), Aidric Chan (ABM/12-Bobola), Carl Corpus (ABM/12-Beyzym), and Marc Corrales (ABM/12-Beyzym).

Placing second was Ateneo Senior High School Team 2, comprised of ASHS students Riggs Illescas (ABM/11-Bellarmino), Ice Miravite (GA/12-Geronimo), and Andoy Magalong (GA/12-Daniel), and lone Ateneo Junior High School student Maio Castañeda of La Storta/10-Garate. Castañeda provided the needed points to contribute to ASHS Team 2’s silver medal finish in the boys’ team competition of the tournament. He was the lone grade 10 golfer from Ateneo in the highly competitive senior high school division together with grade 11 and grade 12 golfers. Castañeda scored a total of 173 points in four rounds with his best round tallying with a two over par at the Southlinks Golf Course. His experience from various junior golf tournaments in the United States and Europe helped him secure the 8th rank in the boys division, besting other grade 10 students in this category. The tournament was concluded last November 4, 2018.
