AJHS places 2nd in midgets division of PRADA chess tourney; Alingog wins gold

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School’s Chess Varsity team placed second in the Midgets Division of the recently-concluded PRADA (Private Schools Athletic Development Association) Chess Tournament, behind champion Xavier School. Playing for the blue-and-white were Tiel Blanca (Pamplona/7-Page), Miguel Magsumbol (Cardoner/7-Andlauer), Brix Magugat (Cardoner/8-Aranha), Bastian Elizalde (Pamplona/7-Page), Gian Alingog (Pamplona/7-Pignatelli) and IC Eugenio (La Storta/8-Delgado). In addition, the following also won individual awards for the most wins in their assigned boards: Gian Alingog, gold medal for Board 5; Tiel Blanca, silver medal for Board 1; Miguel Magsumbol, silver medal for Board 2; and Bastian Elizalde, bronze medal for Board 4.

Gian Alingog was the gold medalist for Board 5.

The team was coached by Yves Rañola. Among the other schools which participated in the tournament were Xavier School (1st place), International School Manila (3rd), Notre Dame of Greater Manila (4th), Marist School (5th), and Don Bosco Technical Institute (6th).  The tournament was concluded on December 14, 2019 at Xavier School in San Juan.
