AJHS swimmers Balanag, Isip and Santos win medals for Ateneo at PRADA Championship

Wacky Santos Three AJHS students- Wacky Santos (Cardoner/10-Berthieu), Jacob Balanag (La Storta/8-del Castillo), and Rafael Isip (Montserrat/8-Jogues)- contributed to the medal haul of Team Ateneo at the recent Private Schools Athletic Development Association (PRADA) Swimming Championships held last January 20, 2018 at Brent International School in Mamplasan, Laguna.
Of the 11 medals won by Ateneo in the boys’ division, Wacky Santos contributed three golds in the 200m individual medley, the 100m backstroke, and the 100m butterfly. Santos was also part of the quartet- together with fellow AJHS swimmer Rafael Isip and ASHS swimmers Kyle Gue and Richard Canlas- that finished second in the 200m medley relay.

Similarly, AJHS swimmer Jacob Balanag swam the 200m freestyle relay with ASHS swimmers Jolo Viovicente, Kyle Gue and Richard Canlas, netting Ateneo another silver. Jacob Balanag is one of the FAST Ateneo Swim Team’s rising stars. Last June, he won three silver medals and two bronze medals in the Philippine Swimming Long Course National Championships (PSLCNC). The PSLCNC is a prestigious meet where selection for the Philippine National Team is conducted. Jacob’s three silvers were for the 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly and the 1500m freestyle. His bronze medals were for the 400m freestyle and 400m Individual medley. The PSLCNC was held from June 2-4, 2017 at the Trace Aquatic Center in Los Baños, Laguna.

Ateneo placed third overall in the boys’ division of the PRADA Swimming Championships, behind eventual champion La Salle Greenhills and second runnerup San Beda College Rizal.
