In addition, Barreto was also one of only 10 swimmers to receive the IMX (I aM eXtreme) award, given only to the best male and female swimmers in the various age divisions. According to Barreto, approximately 300 of the country's best swimmers participated in the Philippine Swimming Long Course National Championships, which were held from July 14 - 17 at the Rizal Memorial Swimming Pool.
A member of the Ateneo de Manila High School’s 11-peat champion UAAP Season 78 Swim Team, Barreto was also named Rookie of The Year (boys division) at UAAP 78, where he established two records (50m butterfly, 50m freestyle) and won three gold medals and four silver medals.    Rafael Barreto.
