ASMPH team argues their way to the top of the 7th Interscholastic Medical Debate Competition

An Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) team successfully defended their championship in SIYASAT: The 7th Interscholastic Medical Debate Competition last November 4-5, 2017 at the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center.
According to Joseph Barcelon, President of the ASMPH Student Council, the winning team, ASMPH Team Blue, was composed of Dexter Galban (Batch 2020), Jari Monteagudo (Batch 2021) and Mike Agoncillo (Batch 2021).
Barcelon said the ASMPH Team beat UST in the semi finals and UERM Team in the finals. The finals motion was " THBT it’s high time for the medical community to actively condemn the war on drugs". ASMPH Team Blue met UERMMC in the finals which saw them defend their stand regarding the medical community speaking up against the actions of the government and condemning the war on drugs.
The Ateneo team was the opposition in this year's finals and countered with a more collaborative approach wherein the medical community should engage and educate the government towards finding better solutions for the problem on the war on drugs.
Barcelon added that the three got the top individual awards, with Agoncillo being awarded the Best Speaker of the tournament, Monteagudo as the 2nd best Speaker and Galban winning 3rd best Speaker. Monteagudo was also recognized as the best Speaker of the Finals.
ASMPH’s second team, ASMPH Team White, composed of Kristine Renoloyan (Batch 2022), Keith Serrano (Batch 2022) and Justine Jabines (Batch 2021) made it to the knockout round of the tournament.
The event was organized by the APMC Student Network and UERM Medicine Student Council. It was co-headed by the MCU and CEU Medicine Student Councils.
Other participants were medical students from UERM, Cagayan State University, and UST.
