The Ateneo School of Government through the Ateneo Policy Center (ASOG - APC) recently held a brown bag discussion for the forthcoming working paper entitled “Advancing Youth Governance in the Philippines: A Narrative of the Sangguniang Kabataan and Its Road to Reform”. The brown bag session was held on January 15, 2021, and was attended by 10 members of the national and local government working in youth development, as well as APC fellows and staff. The session was led by former National Youth Commission Chairperson (2011-2014) Leon G. Flores III, who was also the Senior Researcher and Resource Person for the study. In the first half of the brown bag, Mr. Flores shared the main points of the study, which touched on the Philippines’ journey towards youth governance reform, the actual reform process during the 15th and 16th congress, the impacts of the new policy interventions in the SK Reform Act of 2015, and finally, the examining road ahead for youth governance here in the Philippines. After the presentation, a moderated discussion followed, which touched on various elements of the SK Reform Act’s implementation on the ground, as well as possible interventions and policy refinements. The study was conducted with the support of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The paper will be made publicly available soon. |
