Ateneo Law School Attends PALS Annual Convention

October 18, 2019
The Philippine Association of Law Schools (PALS) held its Annual Convention on October 16 and 17, 2019, at the Hilton Manila Hotel, with the theme Clinical Legal Education Program: Learning While Serving. The Convention proved to be an opportune time to thoroughly discuss the Rule 138-A on Law Student Practice. This recently revised Rule requires law schools to institutionalize clinical legal education programs (CLEP), the completion of which will now be a prerequisite to take the bar examinations beginning 2023.

Atty. Axel Rupert M. Cruz, Director of the Ateneo Legal Services Center (ALSC), shares his experience in managing ALSC.

In his Keynote Address, outgoing Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin, who is set to retire on October 18, touted the value of legal aid clinics in improving the access to justice of the “underserved” and urged law schools all over the country to establish experiential clinical programs through legal aid centers.

The Convention had a series of sessions revolving around the theme and in one particularly helpful panel discussion, Atty. Axel Rupert M. Cruz, Director of the Ateneo Legal Services Center (ALSC), shared Ateneo Law’s experience in establishing and managing the ALSC.
