March 17, 2015

Majority of Filipinos are not only satisfied with the government, they also support the government’s initiatives on the Scarborough Shoal and Bangsamoro agreement, according to the 2015 SWS Survey Review. Results of the annual survey were presented at the Hurtado Hall (SDC Conference Center) on March 13, 2015.

The presentation, organized with the Ateneo School of Government, was a summary of the public’s opinion on various social economic and political issues. SWS president Dr. Mahar Mangahas enumerated the findings to a crowd comprised mostly of students, staff and faculty.

Dean Antonio La Viña of the Ateneo School of Government gives the welcome remarks. Dr. Mahar Mangahas of the SWS presents the 2015 SWS Survey review.

Results are culled from regular national surveys conducted in 2014 using a quarterly average sample size of 1,200 persons.  In general, Mangahas said that “the quality of national governance in 2014 was quite good.” In addition, the people’s satisfaction with performance in key institutions is moderate.

The survey also touched on people’s satisfaction with the Aquino administration on certain issues. For instance, people are satisfied the most with how the government is helping victims of disasters. In terms of recovery post Yolanda, results show that most Filipinos remain confident that the government will be able to cope should another super typhoon come in. Satisfaction on promoting OFW welfare is also good.

Mangahas also presented the SWS 2016 election watch with current Vice President Jejomar Binay leading the survey and Sen. Grace Poe and DILG Secretary Mar Roxas trailing behind.  Mangahas said that despite the current figures, it is difficult to predict at this early stage how the election would play out.

Since 1985, the SWS has been reviewing people’s quality of live, taking their opinions and attitudes on important public issues.
