Servant of the People - Eagle Eyes (July 16) by Tony La Viña

July 16, 2013

Much has been said about Jesse Manalastas Robredo. A year after his untimely demise in a plane crash in August 2012, his life and works are still being celebrated by his grateful kababayans, not only in his native Naga City but by the whole nation. His life and works remain a symbol in humility, simplicity, integrity and dynamism. Even a year after, anecdotal accounts are still coming out, giving a glimpse of what sort of man Jesse Robredo was.

In his 54 years, he accomplished a lot not even we ordinary mortals could ever hope to approximate in a lifetime.  He obtained degrees in Industrial Management Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, masters degrees and a doctorate degree from prestigious universities here and abroad; served as mayor for 19 years and was serving as secretary of the Interior Department until his life was cut short last year.
