Run for Your Life 2: Running for a Cause
On Sunday, March 1, the Scholars’ Society of the ASMPH (SSA) held a benefit run for Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH) scholars at the Ateneo and UP Diliman school grounds. The event, entitled “Run for Your Life 2” was a joint endeavor between the SSA and the Health Sciences Society of the Ateneo (HSS).
“We believe that people should be given the chance to fulfill their dreams of becoming a doctor and a leader. The Scholars’ Society, by virtue of this event, is trying to show that these scholars deserve the opportunities provided to them,” says Claudine Go-Soco, one of the event heads and the current president of the SSA. The project, she says, was created mainly to raise funds to support the current (and future) scholars of the institution.
The fun run officially started at 4:45 AM, with participants for the 16-km run leading the event. The route of the run was held around and between the scenic Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines-Diliman campuses. Following the 16-km runners were the runners for the 10-km, 5-km, and 3- km runners respectively.
Aside from the run, Run for Your Life 2 was also filled with various performances and activities. The ASMPH Father-Son Band performed various songs to energize the crowd, and to cheer the incoming finishers. In addition, the run also featured its own Health Fair, which was held beside the Ateneo’s Blue Eagle Gym. The Health Fair featured different booths, such as food and nutrition, medical consultation and counselling, sponsor booths, as well as variety of activities like face painting, exercise dices, and mystery boxes, all of which were chosen specifically to show the importance of health and fitness. Raffles and contest were also held during the event, in addition to the awarding of the outstanding finishers of the 10-km and 16-km races.
The day closed with some messages of thanksgiving. Jethri Cruz, a YL5 scholar, spoke in behalf of the scholars and the organizing committee, simply stating, “We are thankful for your participation and super grateful for supporting us scholars.”
A run for (your) a life indeed.
