This is an introductory course that aims to equip the participants with a working knowledge on the core theories, assumptions, and values of Organization Development as well as a practical understanding of the full OD consulting cycle.

Course Outline

Module 1: Overview of Organization Development
In this introductory module, the participants will discuss the definition of Organization Development: its field boundaries, key characteristics, practice trademarks, values and ethics, and relationship with Human Resource Management and Development, as well as Change Management. This module also discusses and presents the competencies of an OD practitioner.
Module 2: OD Consulting Cycle and Core Theories
This module will provide understanding on the breadth of the OD Consulting Cycle. The participants will be engaged in discussions on the different types of clients and the different consulting phases, tasks, and questions. This module will also tackle the Core Theories that underpin the practice of OD, such as Systems Thinking, Social Construction, Complexity Theories, Action Research, and Change Theories.
Module 3: Live Consulting
In this module, we will invite an organization that faces critical organizational challenges. The participants will simulate all of the four OD Cycle phases with the invited organization whilst in a safe learning environment.
Module 4: Application of the OD Consulting Cycle and Core Theories
In this module, participants will reflect on their experience of the OD Consulting Cycle from the Live Consulting Case. This module will also present how Core Theories are applied in frameworks and tools often used by OD practitioners. Participants will also be given an opportunity to consult organizational issues with their peers acting as consultants.
Module 5: Use of Self
This culminating module emphasizes the importance and relevance of the "Use of Self" in the OD practice. This module will also have participants reflect on their past and present learning journeys to cement their future endeavors as organizational change agents.
