The 28th Trendwatcher Series: Organizational Development in the Philippines: The Practitioners’ Perspective

October 23, 2015

The 28th Trendwatcher was held last September 30, 2015 at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business Amphitheater in Rockwell, Makati. This Trendwatcher was entitled “Organizational Development in the Philippines: The Practitioners’ Perspective” and was done with the partnership of the Organizational Development Practitioners Network Philippines Inc. (ODPN). Aside from Edna Franco, PhD as the main presenter of the session, there were four (4) panelists serving as seasoned OD practitioners who shared their thoughts and experiences in conducting organizational development in the country.

The session was hosted by Amanda Angeles, Associate Director for OD (Ateneo CORD) and Jocelyn Pick, the current Vice-President of ODPN. The opening remarks were given by Dr. Joy Calleja, Director for OD and HR Solutions (Ateneo CORD).

The session began with a presentation of Edna Franco, PhD on Organizational Development in the Philippines: looking at the beginnings of OD in the world and in the Philippines, understanding what OD means, and sharing the competencies and challenges faced by practitioners.

An open forum where the registered participants asked questions to Dr. Franco followed the presentation. This was then followed by a 20 minute break where everyone was invited for snacks and drinks.

After the break, the learning session resumed with a discussion among the four guest panelists. These panelists were: Ric Abadesco, the President of the Philippine Society of Fellows in Personnel Management; Milalin Javellana, the current Facility Director of the Philippines-Australia Human Resource and Organizational Development Facility (PAHRODF); Beth Nasol, the current Vice-president of for the Human Resources Management Group of the Energy Development Corporation; and Marie-Paul de Luna, PhD, the current Partners and Consulting Director of the SAIDI School of OD. Each took turns sharing their history as OD practitioners, their significant or most memorable OD experiences, their current OD initiatives, and their perceived challenges that the young generation would face.

To close the Trendwatcher session, the speakers were awarded tokens of appreciation by Dr. Bo Peep Franco and Dr. Joy Calleja. Pearl Bernardo of ODPN gave the closing remarks to the plenary after. The entire afternoon was then capped off with a group photo with the presenters.
