Advanced OD 8: OD and Technology:Connection, Convergence and Consequences

November 25, 2015

A workshop on the use of technology in Organization Development (OD) was held last November 25, 2015 at Richmonde Hotel, Ortigas. This Ateneo CORD activity was conducted in partnership with the Organization Development Practitioners Network (ODPN) and with technological assistance from SMART communications. It was facilitated by Eduardo “Ed” Canela, PhD, an international consultant and capacity development practitioner focusing on OD, team performance and project management.

Dr. Canela began the workshop with a conversation that compared the perspectives and experiences of the different  generations in the work place. He emphasized that the current generation experiences change at a very fast pace which causes disruptions in organizations. He then put forth the idea that OD nowadays does not only mean “Organization Development” but also “Organization Disruption.”

He then presented the ten most common technological trends applicable to OD. Examples of these technologies are Social Network Analysis (SNA), Telecommuting, and Cloud Computing. Participants were given the chance to experience personal learning space, electronic polling, using technology with the Delphi technique and studio method. They also came up with videos highlighting the use of “technology” in Organization Development.

The cordodpn.weebly.com and  youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGt57Q5kwsZ54N2aa1oSyGg) were launched in the workshop . The participants were given the chance to navigate and explore the resources available in the site and participate in the forum.

The workshop was co-facilitated by Dr. Joy Calleja, Director for OD and HR Solutions of AteneoCORD and Ms. Luzee Gravador, one of the MA candidates in the Organization Psychology Program of the Ateneo Psychology Department.
