Ateneo Grade School runs for peace in TakBLUEhan 6

January 13, 2017

Members of the Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) community will participate in a fun run called TakBLUEhan 6: Run for Peace on Jan. 29, 2017 at the Ateneo campus. The run aims to advocate peace and a healthy lifestyle.

According to AGS Headmaster Jonny Salvador Jr., the run started in 2010 when the Ateneo Grade School Class Officers Movement (AGSCOM) organized a fundraising event called Blue Run for a Green Life. This was also with the intention of supporting a bigger school-wide effort on ecological awareness, Blue Goes Green.

"Because of the positive reception by the patrons, the next batch of AGSCOM officers decided to continue it in the succeeding years," Salvador says. "The run has evolved into a wellness campaign."

Student Activities Coordinator for AGS, Ms. Noemi Blanco, says that the theme for this year is peace. She explains that peace is not the absence of conflict and that the students are aware of this reality.

"They get into conflicts every day, even at play and during conversations with classmates or friends," she says. "Peace happens when we set aside individual differences for a common good.  In a fun run, we are reminded of some aspects of peaceful living like communing with nature, taking care of our health and valuing families and forging stronger friendships."

Blanco says the theme of the run depends on the decision of the AGS Physical Fitness and Wellness Committee, however, the students’ ideas are also considered. Students suggest themes through a "Name the TakBLUEhan” contest and the committee works around the chosen theme.

Aside from promoting a peaceful and healthy environment, Blanco says that TakBLUEhan brings families together and that it supports the social action projects of the school.

Students, parents, faculty members, the Ateneo community, and even non-Ateneans may choose to run under a 1.5K, 3K or a 4.5K category. Interested participants can register at the TakBLUEhan booth outside the AGS Administration Building until Jan. 27, 2017.
