3 AGS boys win medals for PH in Math & Science Olympiad

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Grade School students Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier), Zion Uy (6-Campion), and Darren Uy (6-Xavier) won medal awards in the recent 17th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO). Alphan and Zion won the silver award in the math competition, while Darren bagged bronze in the science competition. Their awards were among the one gold, 12 silvers, and eight bronzes harvested by the Philippines in the competition’s mathematics and science divisions.

The IMSO is a prestigious worldwide math and science competition for elementary and middle school students under the age of 13. The 17th edition of the Olympiad drew around 300 participants from Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. Indonesia was the organizer of this year’s IMSO. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Olympiad took place virtually from January 20 – 24, 2021.
