Alphan Lomibao wins gold for PH in WMI

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier) and Magnus Navarro (6-Bellarmine) won the gold award and the silver award, respectively, in the recent World Mathematics Invitational (WMI). Alphan’s gold signifies that he is among the WMI’s top 5% of contenders while Magnus’ silver award signifies that he is among the top 15% of contestants.

A total of 1,911 mathletes from Australia, Bulgaria, China, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam participated in the 2020 WMI, which was held online on October 25.


The WMI is the first Taiwan-founded math competition that aims to popularize Mathematics education through its challenging annual musters. It recognizes the best-of-the-best mathletes worldwide through items that test logic, analogy, and problem-solving skills. The WMI virtual awarding ceremony was held on November 28, 2020.
