Four Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes did very well in the Fermat Mathematical Olympiad (FMO) Philippine Heat Round, which was held virtually on August 8, 2021. Leading the awardees were recent graduates Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier, Class of 2021) and Magnus Navarro (6-Bellarmine, Class of 2021), who both won gold awards in the Primary 6 category AND achieved perfect scores! Receiving silver awards were Ethan Alferez (3-Kanlaon) for the Primary 2 division and Miguel Tagarda (2-Yakal) for the Primary 1 division.

The FMO is an annual competition developed and held by Fermat Education, an authorized Vietnamese organization board for many international Olympiads. It is open to all students from kindergarten to grade 9 who have a strong interest in Mathematics, and focuses on how the contestants read, understand, and analyze the problems. The FMO 2021 Final Round promises to be a friendly and accessible mathematical playground not only for Vietnamese students, but for students from around the world.
