Magnus Navarro is 1st place winner of Int’l Math Competition

Representing the Philippines, six Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes showed that they were among the best in the world, winning medal awards for our country in the Mathematics Without Borders (MWB) International Competition Final Round. Leading the awardees were recent graduates Magnus Navarro (6-Bellarmine, Class of 2021) and Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier, Class of 2021). In addition to winning a gold award, Magnus was named 1st Place Winner of the competition’s Age Group 6 division, while Alphan was named 2nd Place Winner of the Age Group 5 division. Meanwhile, AJ Capito (6-Pignatelli) won a silver award in the Age Group 3 division, while Paco Javier (5-Ati) won a bronze award also in the Age Group 3 division. Rounding out the bronze awardees were recent graduates Sieggy Cajucom (6-Bellarmine, Class of 2021) and Darren Uy (6-Xavier, Class of 2021), who both competed in the Age Group 5 division.

Exactly 1,234 mathletes from 17 countries (Australia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, China, Estonia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malta, Philippines, North Macedonia, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Taiwan, Turkey, Uzbekistan) participated in the MWB Final Round, which was held online on August 7, 2021.

The MWB International Tournament is a competition originating in Nessebar, Bulgaria. It has three remote rounds called the Autumn Round, the Winter Round, and the Spring Round. Only medalists from at least one of these remote preliminary rounds may join the Final Round.
