Navarro wins gold for PH in SIMOC Math Olympiad
Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Grade School mathletes Magnus Navarro (6-Bellarmine), Alphan Lomibao (6-Xavier), and Rohan Herrera (6-Xavier) won two medal awards each for our country in the three divisions of the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC). Magnus won a gold and a bronze, Alphan won a silver and a bronze, and Rohan won two bronzes.
Held online on October 24, the SIMOC is a unique mathematics competition which not only tests the students’ ability to solve mathematical problems on pen and paper, but also tests their ability to work as a team to play interactive mathematical games and solve puzzles. SIMOC gives participants an opportunity to compete with top mathematical talents from around the world and learn from one another as a team. SIMOC’s three categories are:
- Math Olympiad for grades 2 to 10 (Primary 2 to Secondary 4)
- Math Master Mind (team based)
- Mind Sports Challenge (team based)
The Philippines placed 3rd overall in the SIMOC, behind champion Singapore and 1st runner-up Vietnam.
