It’s time for Fiesta!

September 24, 2018

On September 27-29, 2018, the spirit of celebration will fill the Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) as the community marks the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels.

Students, faculty, staff and their families can revel in 3 days of fun, food and games. Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, however, is more than just a celebration; it is a spirited declaration of the institution’s devotion to the presence of angels who serve as one’s protector. The AGS community first celebrated the feast during the administration of the late Rev. Henry Lee Irwin, S.J.

The AGS community comes together to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels with a procession, mass and salu-salo.

On the evening of September 28, 1933, a group of Ateneo boarders were capping the night off at the hand-ball court laughing and singing when an earthquake occurred. The wall in the eastern side of the court collapsed but to everyone’s amazement, the boys— seated in the center in a circular form— came out unharmed.  The prefect asked the boys to stand and face the image of the Immaculate Conception—which was not destroyed— and pray to their Guardian Angels who saved them. At the school assembly the following Monday, Fr. Irwin announced that October 2 would be the school feast. The community believed that it was the Holy Guardian Angels who protected the students.  Since then, the AGS  community comes together to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels with a procession, mass and salu-salo.

Fun awaits AGS students, faculty, staff and their families.
