5 AGS booters help PH win plate championship in largest football tourney in Asia

The MFC Born 2009 team is comprised of players from Ateneo de Manila University (5), Xavier School Greenhills (3), Claret (1), Don Bosco Makati (1), Reedley Academy (1) and Manila Japanese School (1).

Representing the Philippines, the Makati Football Club (MFC) Born-2009 team emerged as U10 Plate Champion of the JSSL 7s football tournament. Five Ateneans (all of whom are incoming Grade 5 this schoolyear 2019-2020) played on the team: Trey Solis (front row, leftmost), Gab Reyes (front row 3rd from left), Ivan Quierrez (front row, 5th from left), Manu Simpao (back row, 2nd from left), and Alphan Lomibao (back row, 4th from left). The MFC Born 2009 team is comprised of players from Ateneo de Manila University (5), Xavier School Greenhills (3), Claret (1), Don Bosco Makati (1), Reedley Academy (1) and Manila Japanese School (1). The team was coached by Francisco De Asis of MFC and managed by Robel Lomibao.

The MFC also fielded a team in the Born-2010 division, which had had one Atenean- incoming Grade 4 student Rob Esquillo- in its roster. The MFC Born-2010 team finished 8th out of 50 teams in its division.

Held from April 19 to 21, 2019 at Our Tampines Hub in Singapore, JSSL 7s is the largest youth football tournament in Asia. This year, more than 420 teams from 17 countries (including the Philippines, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand) participated in the tournament, which had a headcount of 5,000 athletes and coaches.
