The works of Filipino freelance photographer Stanley Cabigas, student of the Diploma in Photojournalism of the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo (ACFJ), has been accepted in Chobi Mela V , the prestigious international photography festival in Bangladesh.
Cabigas, one of 10 in the fourth batch of the photojournalism students , has been granted a slot in Chobi Mela V, the fifth of this biennial festival series which starts Jan. 30 at the Bangladesh National Museum, in Dhaka.
Chobi Meli V takes the theme Freedom. It is expected to draw participants from Asia and other parts of the world.
In accepting Cabigas, Shahidul Alam, festival director, noted “the very high quality” of his work.
Alam, has reported in his blog the difficulties of obtaining a venue for the festival submissions.
The Chobi Mela’s key organizers are Drik Picture Library Ltd., and Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography .
Cabigas is among four in the current batch of photojournalism students awarded financial grants covering tuition and miscellaneous fees.
The seven-course Diploma in Photojournalism was developed jointly by ACFJ and the World Press Photo, a media NGO based in The Netherlands. It seeks to raise the bar for photojournalism in Asia by providing comprehensive training primarily for working photojournalists.
