College Athletics Office

Athletics is an effective and powerful tool for developing character and leadership as well as physical prowess, as proven by generations of Ateneo student-athletes.
The University recognizes different sports as legitimate venues for student development. In an extension of the University’s Formative responsibility to students, it supports the formation of varsity teams that are allowed to carry the University’s official name and represent the institution in University-sanctioned athletics competition.
The Office of College Athletics (OCA) of the Loyola Schools supports the student-athletes and coaching staff of varsity teams in 20 sports. The OCA assists the student-athletes through a wide range of services including issuance of certificates of competition participation, accident insurance, PE exemptions for freshmen and sophomores, and academic monitoring through the Athletes Study Hall.
The OCA also releases competition announcements through its social media account on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the handle @goATENEO. The office also organizes the different sports events in the Loyola Schools such as the Ateneo Cheer Rally and Ateneo Bonfires, and oversees the recognition and awarding of outstanding performances through the Ambrosio Padilla Athlete of the Year Award and the annual Athletes Night Awards.
Despite the shift to a new normal, the OCA strives to remain true to its mission to provide an environment supportive of the values formation and character development of our student-athletes. The office encourages and supports the efforts of the varsity teams to continue team training sessions despite the physical distance. Available technology has aided our coaches and leaders in ensuring that the virtue of mens sana en corpore sano – a sound mind in a sound body – is continually instilled in all student-athletes of the Loyola Schools.
