Critical Digital Literary

The internet, social media and digital communication have transformed society and language in unprecedented ways. As technology reconfigures the social landscape, the development of digital literacies has become essential for students to acquire knowledge, to represent themselves and to grow their social networks. These digitally-mediated practices, however, are inscribed by power, and a critical lens is necessary to examine how mechanisms of power can both privilege and marginalize knowledge, identities, and cultures. This workshop provides English teachers with the foundations of this critical digital literacy and explores innovative classroom practices that can develop this criticality among learners of the 21st century.
