The Department of Modern Languages welcomed back Argentine Ambassador Mario Schuff for a presentation entitled “Welcome to Argentina: Nature, Culture and Resources”, last Thursday, July 24.

Ambassador Schuff, who was introduced as a “dear friend” of the Department, was invited to impart some basic information about his country but also communicated the value of interregional exchanges between Latin America and Asia. It is a cause he continually supports by promoting relevant lectures and activities in the Ateneo and other local universities. “We try to give some glances of our country and culture…and give different perspectives on the region,” he said of his embassy’s efforts."

In line with this, he set the mood for students and guests by playing a recording of an authentic Argentine tango performance as they filled the room. They were treated soon after to more videos on Argentina’s history, geography, economy, and culture.

The event was hosted at Dela Costa Hall’s Natividad Galang Fajardo Conference Room from 1:30 to 3pm. A showcase of Argentine cinema, also organized by the Department of Modern Languages, will take place at the same time and venue on August 14.
