Ateneans excel at programming competition

Two teams of Loyola Schools students emerged as winners at the 2020 UP Association for Computing Machinery (UP ACM) Algolympics held February 22.
 
Team Bruh, composed of Franz Louis Cesista ( 2 BS Mathematics), Christopher William Dizon (4 BS Computer Science - BS Digital Game Design and Development) and Gerard Francis Ortega (3 BS Mathematics) won first place. Team Blossom, represented by Robin Chua (3 BS Computer Science), Raphael Jose Montemayor (1 BS Computer Science - MS Computer Science) and Sir Heinrich Kemp Tan (4 BS Computer Science - BS Digital Game Design and Development) placed second runner up. Vernon D. Gutierrez served as their coach.

A total of 82 Philippine teams participated in the online elimination round. Aside from Teams Bruh and Blossom, two other Ateneo Programming Varsity teams joined the competition: Buttercup, composed of Ian Red Ligot (2 BS Management Information Systems), Mark Kevin Yiu (1 BS Applied Mathematics with Specialization in Mathematical Finance) and Hyeong Seon Yoo (3 BS Computer Science ) and Bubbles, comprised of Daniel Raymond del Rio (3 BS Computer Science), Joaquin Gregorio (2 BS Computer Science - MS Computer Science) and Riana Marie Claire Lim (3 BS Computer Science).

UP ACM is the first local student chapter of ACM, the world’s largest and oldest education and scientific computer society.
