Cambaliza, Ma. Obiminda L.

Obie Cambaliza is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Physics of the Ateneo de Manila University as well as a research scientist in the Air Quality Dynamics Laboratory of the Manila Observatory, Philippines. She is broadly interested in the following areas of research in atmospheric science: atmospheric composition, urban air quality, greenhouse gas measurements and emission trends in urban environments. She returned to the Philippines in 2014 after her graduate studies and postdoctoral work in the United States. She had the opportunity to be part of a multi-institution collaborative effort to develop and assess top-down approaches for quantifying greenhouse gas emissions from urban environments as well as from area and point sources such as landfills, coal-fired power plants, and hydraulic fracturing sites. Her work abroad exposed her to the fulfilling experience of collaborating with partners who are experts in various fields. She currently mentors several graduate and undergraduate students of Atmospheric Science and Applied Physics who are working on science questions pertaining to regional and urban atmospheric composition. Apart from research, she also teaches a number of related courses such as Introduction to Atmospheric Science, Fundamentals of Air Pollution, Calculus-based Physics for Science majors, and Conceptual Physics for non-Science students. Obie is currently a committee member of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry Project – Monsoon Asia Oceania Networking Group (IGAC – MANGO).
