Course Description:
This course extends concepts developed ina standard undergraduate optics course. The theory of nonlinear optics will be established on an electromagnetic basis. Details of nonlinear phenomena will then be presented, including frequency doubling, parametric amplification and oscillation, nonlinear refractive indices, and nonlinear optical materials. Students are expected to gain further insight into light-matter interaction and develop an appreciation for this important subfield in optics.
