Ateneo HS '68/College Class 1968-1972 Launches Campaign to Establish Scholarship Fund
The Ateneo High School Class of 1968 and College Class of 1968-1972 (Ateneo ‘68/‘68-‘72) launched a fundraiser to establish what would be known as “Ateneo HS '68/College Class 1968-1972 Fr. Thomas B. Steinbugler, SJ Memorial Scholarship Fund.” To inaugurate the campaign, the class made an initial donation of P500,000.00 through the Office Admission and Aid last January 6, 2017.
Fr. Steinbugler, or Fr. Tom as he is fondly called, was appointed as the Dean of Freshmen of the College of Arts and Sciences in November 1964. At the same time, he was chosen as Director of the College Scholarship Program from 1964 to 1971. With his bold initiative and dedicated leadership, he ran the program with these three goals: to make Jesuit education available to deserving but financially needy students, to continue to aspire for a greater mix in the college, and to bring in the brightest of students by offering academic scholarships.
Members of Ateneo ‘68 ‘72 were among the first beneficiaries of the College Scholarship Program. The batch aims to pay forward the generosity they have received, honoring Fr. Tom by establishing a scholarship under his name and by continuing his mission of helping talented but financially-challenged students enter the university.
The class representatives for the fund are Gaudencio S. Hernandez, Jr., Rafael Bauza, Perfecto Martin, and Michael Molina.
