How to ace the ACET
September 19, 2013
It’s that time of the year again when high school students from all over the country flock to the Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola Heights campus to take the exam that will either make or break their hopes of entering the land of the blue.
The Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) is the admission test to the undergraduate program of the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University. Held usually in the month of September, ACET is definitely one of the entrance tests students look forward to every year.
Admission to the Ateneo Loyola Schools is determined by the applicant’s fitness and preparation for the college programs, ability to contribute toward the enrichment of the undergraduate school community, and potential to be of service to one’s fellow men within the context of national development.
The Committee on Admission and Aid considers the applicant’s Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET) results, high school grades, recommendations, extra and co-curricular activities and all other information in the application form.
Here are some tips and reminders of those who will take the ACET this weekend:
The ACET is conducted under time pressure. It has also an essay part to test writing ability and coherence of thought.
There is no need to bring scratch papers, calculators, and other electronic devices. Scratch paper will be provided.
Please read the exam permit given to you upon registration. You’re usually told what to bring on the testing date (pencils, ballpens).
Regarding snacks, students may bring light snacks but these can only be eaten during the break. A friendly reminder: relax. Cease studying at least 24 hours before the testing day. Eat a bit, get well-rested, pray, and come on time. Traffic is usually terrible that day.
Do not go to sleep while taking the test. Do not get stuck on one question. Skip it, move on, and then come back for it. You’ll be pressed for time but be careful in answering. Make sure you are shading the right number.
Pause from time to time to review your answers. Keep track of the time using a watch or look at the board for the time remaining. Follow the proctor and whatever instructions there are in the booklet.
Lastly, do your best to do well.
