Africa and Angan are overall best speakers of Ateneo Debate Camp

David Africa and Kara Angan Several ASHS debaters performed well in the recent Ateneo Debate Camp, with seven being named in the roster of top ten best speakers. The teams of CJ Carlos (STEM/12-Sullivan) & David Africa (STEM/12-Xavier) and Matthew Varona (HUMSS/12-Kibe) & Quintin Chua (De La Salle Zobel) ended their excellent runs at finals, conceding to Grand Champions USJ-R SHS A. Africa was crowned Best Speaker of the Finals.   

Kara Angan (HUMSS/11-Mayer) & Shawn Tongson (HUMSS/11-Nakaura) bowed out to Carlos & Africa and Varona & Chua in the semifinal, whereas Bea Legaspi (GA/12-Evans) & Matthew Mercado (ABM/12-Anchieta), Alaine Gosyco (ABM/12-Bobola) & Javy Pineda (GA/12-Grodecky), Kahee Dhakal (HUMSS/11-Mayer) & Esther Dhakal (Ateneo De Zamboanga University), and Ryan Oquiza (HUMSS/12-Kibe) & Mariane Ylagan (Saint Paul College of Pasig) bowed out at quarterfinals. The team of Gabe Apostol (GA/12-Evans) & Johann Claveria (STEM/12-Pantalia) exited pre-quarters after a strong run, breaking 14th.

Africa and Angan were both recognized as Overall Best Speakers. On the other hand, Carlos ranked 4th Best Speaker. Legaspi and Mercado ranked 5th Best Speakers, and finally Gosyco and Tongson ranked 10th Best Speakers.    

The Ateneo Debate Camp was organized by ADS OrgComm and held at Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, last November 10-12, 2018.
