The Aplaya coastal clean-up

March 19, 2019

With over one hundred student participants, and a collection of over 1000 kilograms of recovered waste, Aplaya: A Coastal Cleanup held in November 2018 is a proud and significant achievement of the school and its student body. Aplaya, a two-day event, consisted of a seminar given by Mr. Dino Calderon of World Wildlife Fund, followed by the coastal cleanup proper held in The Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA). This coastal cleanup project essentially fulfilled the goal of Sandigan Matanglawin--to see with a keen eye. Aplaya allowed for a new perspective regarding the prevailing issue of improper waste disposal on our shores, and the impact this has on marine life and the general state of the environment. This cleanup experience is a calling for each individual to reflect upon one’s actions towards the environment and to respond the call of nature in order to alleviate environmental abuse.
