Ateneo places 3rd in PRADA chess’ jr division; Pilien bags silver

Composed of players from Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS) and Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS), Ateneo de Manila’s chess varsity team placed third in the Junior Division of the recently-concluded PRADA (Private Schools Athletic Development Association) Chess Tournament. In addition, ASHS student Elijah Pilien (12-Pro) also won the silver medal individual award for board 1. Playing for the blue-and-white were Liam Batnag of Cardoner/8-Aranha, Raiz Roxas of Montserrat/9-Lalemant, Christian Ngo of Cardoner/10-Chabanel, Joseph Gelvezon of 11-Brebeuf, Jaime Rara of 11-Angelis, and Elijah Pilien. They were coached by Ildefonso Datu. 

Silver medalist Elijah Pilien Among the other schools which participated in the tournament were La Salle Greenhills, San Beda, Xavier School, International School Manila, Notre Dame of Greater Manila, Marist School, and Don Bosco Technical Institute. The tournament was held at Xavier School in San Juan from November 16 to December 14, 2019.
