Dominating
the Market, Winning in Sales and Profitability

The
John Gokongwei School of Management held its 5th Business
Leadership Forum with the theme "Searching for Gold: Mining Your
Market for Sales and Profitability" last August 6, 2004 at the Inter
Continental Manila Ballroom.

The
forum kicked off with Gladys de Veyra's presentation on market trends,
shares, distribution, and opportunities in the Philippine retail industry.
She is the Executive Director of the Retail and Measurement Services of AC
Nielsen. Presentations of key people from various industry giants followed
afterward. The floor was opened for reactions and questions from the
participants after each presentation.
The
Key Speakers
First,

Corporation) featured how 7 Eleven has grown into a network of over 200
stores nationwide—a feat he is directly credited for.
Afterward,
Roberto Ocampo (COO, Max's Franchising, Inc.) profiled how Max's
Restaurant, also referred to as the "house that fried chicken built,"
was able to establish and maintain itself as one of the undisputed market

industry for almost 60 years.
On
the other hand, Bienvenido Tantoco, Jr. (President, Rustan Commercial
Corporation) relayed how Rustan's has set the standard for operational

the Rustan's group.

secrets in becoming the country's largest credit issuer. She focused on
how aggressive marketing campaigns help ensure industry leadership despite
fierce competition.
Meanwhile,

also overall market size, and experience double-digit sales and profit
growth in the intensely competitive and highly regulated Philippine
Telecommunications industry.
Lastly,

Corporation) talked about how Jolibee evolved from being a two-branch ice
cream parlor to becoming the undisputed leader in the Philippine fastfood
industry. He shared his insights on the corporation's marketing and
business development strategies that have made it the only company in the
world to beat a popular global fast food giant at its own game.
