The Business Study Tour Program:
Open to all JG-SOM Juniors and Seniors!

Let's face it. You don't really want to be stuck at home during summer break. This is the prime of your life! You haven't joined the work force yet, and you finally have all this time in the world to pursue your wildest dreams! Maybe go swimming in Boracay, partying in Palawan, or surfing in Siargao! Better yet, why not try and see if you can travel somewhere a little farther from home?

JGSOM Majors, get ready for this. You are all invited to join us for our Summer 2006 Business Study Tours, either to China or to Spain.

The First China Business Study Tour was conducted in 2005, and all 17 participants, without exception, said that it was the most memorable month of their lives. The only thing that can beat travelling to another country, is having the chance to live in another country.

Main highlights of our Business Study Tour program:

  1. Our study tours are 4 weeks in duration, and BOTH study tours are scheduled to run simultaneously from 17 April to 14 May this year.

  2. The study tours include lectures by foreign professors and educational field trips, but will also include sightseeing to all major tourist spots in the area and a variety of other cultural experiences. In Spain, language studies will be part of the educational program.

  3. Students can earn up to 6 units of academic credit through participation in the program, by submitting a paper at the end of the study tour.

  4. JGSOM juniors and seniors are given the priority for participation in the program; JGSOM sophomores and non-JGSOM juniors and seniors can be accommodated depending on the availability of slots.

China Business Study Tour

  • Highlights:  One week in Hong Kong, 2 days in Shenzhen, 3 weeks in Beijing.

  • Major cultural highlights:  Get to see these unforgettable ancient testaments of cultural greatness: Great Wall of China, the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City.

  • Host institutions:  Hong Kong Baptist University, The Beijing Center at the University of International Business and Economics.

  • Cost:  Maximum of US$2,800, inclusive of airfare, accommodations, all local transportation, some meals.  Budget another US$500 or so for pocket money and other incidental expenses, NOT INCLUDING shopping money. If we can get 20 participants for the trip, cost will go down further.

European Business Study Tour

  • Highlights:  One month in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Salamanca, Granada, Sevilla.

  • Host institution:  Academia Isla.  To bring down costs, students will mostly stay with host families. What better way to know how Spaniards live?

  • Cost:  Approx. US$4,200, inclusive of airfare, accommodations, all local transportation and some meals.  Budget another US$1,200 or so for pocket money and other incidental expenses, NOT INCLUDING shopping money.  The cost estimates for the European Business Study Tour are still being finalized; these figures are still tentative. This is Europe, after all. It's the bulwark of the western world's civilization, and the cost of seeing it first hand is absolutely priceless.

INTERESTED? If you are, please sign up ASAP at the JGSOM Dean's Office, to make sure that a slot is reserved for you!   We have room for only 15 to 20 students for each trip, so GET GOING! For further inquiries, please email Dean Rudy Ang.
