JG-SOM Sweeps Top Four Spots in
National L'Oreal eStrat 6 Challenge

Darwin Yu

The L'Oreal eStrat 6 Challenge is an international business strategy game that is played online in multiple stages. Points are accumulated at each round. The semi-final round determines the top teams of each region. The Philippines is in Zone 8, together with India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. The final round of the competition is held in Paris where teams are required to defend their business plans.

We are proud to announce that the four teams from JG-SOM that entered the semi-final round of the competition performed superbly by taking the top four slots among the Philippine teams. They also rank competitively against other teams in the zone, as well as the rest of the world. From the original 735 teams qualifying in Zone 8, 44 surviving MBA and undergraduate teams entered the semi-final round with their business plan submissions.

Here are the final Zone rankings of our teams, inclusive of the points and the business plan:

  • 5th Place: SurrealSynergy (Karen Kwok, Ellaine Ong, Adrienne Favis - IV BS Mgt)

  • 11th Place: Cheetos (Raizelle So, Armando Villacin Jr., Michael Reonel Pacatang Jr -- IV BS LM)

The top 20 teams in the undergraduate category were made up of 9 teams from Singapore, 5 from Indonesia, our 4 teams from the Philippines (all JG-SOM) and one team each from Malaysia and Thailand.

It is worth noting that back2basics obtained the 5th highest rating in the world for business plan submitted in the undergraduate category, tying with the Chinese first placer in Zone 7 and besting the first placer finishers in all the other six Zones. Not far behind is Surreal Synergy, whose business plan tied with the best in Zones 2 and 6, and ahead of the best in Zones 1, 3, and 5. Both of our team's business plans are also higher than the business plans entered by all MBA teams in the semi-final round.

Congratulations to the members of our teams!
