Top RP HS Students choose JGSOM

Fifteen out of the twenty-six awardees of the prestigious Ateneo Freshman Merit Scholarship for S.Y. 2005 – 2006 have the John Gokongwei School of Management as their college of choice.

Every year, thousands of students from all over the Philippines apply for a place in the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University, but because of the highly competitive nature of the application process, only very few eventually make it to the Freshman Class. From among them, the university chooses the best of the best—those  who have excelled in the Ateneo College Entrance Test, who distinguished themselves in their respective high schools, and who also show great promise for the future—who are worthy of a Freshman Merit Scholarship.

Here are the awardees:

  • Steven L. Camiña (ME), Paref Southridge School

  • Brian Marco Q. Chanyungco (MGTH), Ateneo de Manila High School

  • Carlos Martin Jose D. Esguerra Jr. (MGTH), La Salle Greenhills

In addition, two out of the six awardees of the equally prestigious San Ignacio de Loyola Merit Scholarship will enroll in the John Gokongwei School of Management next school year. The scholarship is given to top Loyola Schools examinees who come from public schools all over the Philippines. These students have distinguished themselves in both their academics and co-curricular involvement in there respective schools. More importantly, these students have shown the potential to become catalysts for national development and future leaders of our country.

The following are the recipients of this scholarship:

  • Danielle Gay R. Balandra (LM), Iloilo National High School

  • Steve Andrew L. Ladan (LM), Cebu City National High School

"In recognizing these students' excellence, the Ateneo likewise acknowledges their potential for even greater achievement not only in academics but also in the service of God and nation," Ms. Jolly Morata, Assistant to the Director of the Loyola Schools Office of Admission and Aid, said.
