ME alumnus wins International Essay Competition

JGSOM alumnus Wilfred Segovia (ME '04, cum laude) won First Place in an International Essay Competition sponsored by the World Bank in May 2005. Segovia shared first place with Asnia Asim of Pakistan. Each received a $3,000 cash prize. There were 1,241 essays submitted from 108 countries on the theme Building a Secure Future, Seeking Practical Solutions.

Segovia's essay focused on the Ateneo Debate Society's Debate Education Program. The program is a free nationwide educational tour that sends Ateneo debaters around the country to teach debate and argumentation to secondary and tertiary students as a means of developing critical thinking skills; listening, language, and communication skills; issue awareness; and tolerance and open-mindedness among Filipino youth. Segovia and the other finalists presented their essays and answered questions from the Final Jury during the Annual World Bank Conference on Development Economics.
