Department of Biology

Biology is one of the most rapidly advancing fields in science today. Biologists are needed in industry, the medical profession, academe, government and non-government organizations, and international agencies involved in conservation and research.

The Department of Biology, as a CHED Center of Excellence in Biology, offers undergraduate and graduate programs which answer the need for experts in the fields of biological diversity and conservation, medical science and biology education. Backed by a well-trained faculty and well-equipped laboratories, the Biology Department assures a competent, competitive, and relevant education.

Department of Chemistry

Chemistry remains the Central Science in the 21st century. The Chemistry Department at the Ateneo, as a CHED Center of Excellence in Chemistry, provides the student an excellent environment for scientific training and research.

Our faculty offers expertise in the most relevant fields of chemistry, having been trained in well-established scientific institutions around the world. They are actively engaged in research and development projects which are funded by the university, private sector and government. Even with our research thrusts, the department has remained very much student-oriented. Laboratory experiments and hands-on experience with modern instruments provide the students the best training possible.

An Ateneo chemistry graduate is equipped to handle the emerging technologies of the 21st century such as materials science and polymer chemistry, nanotechnology, environmental chemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics. Many of our recent graduates find jobs in consulting, management, manufacturing, and research and development (R&D). A number are also pursuing advanced degrees in local and foreign institutions.

Department of Electronics, Computer and Communications Engineering

The Department of Electronics, Computer and Communications Engineering (ECCE) aims to develop graduates who will be frontrunners in the rapidly changing fields of electronics, computers, communications, and information technology, and at the same time remain deeply rooted in human values.

The ECCE Department provides a science-based engineering program characterized by a multi-disciplinary approach to education in science and mathematics, technical skills and expertise with courses in the humanities, social sciences and personal enrichment.

The Department is an active research and development partner of the government and of industry in the new and emerging technologies for the progress of the nation.

Department of Environmental Science

Two of the most crucial challenges facing human society are environmental protection and sustainable development. In both cases, the solution requires an understanding of both the dynamics of the natural environment and the complexities of human society. This implies a holistic and interdisciplinary approach in responding to these challenges.

The first to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science (BS ES) in the country, the Ateneo’s Department of Environmental Science provides the essential knowledge and skills in a wide range of disciplines, and combines these with training in Environmental Management. During the student’s senior thesis, he/she is encouraged to apply these in helping address actual environmental problems.

Put together with the Ateneo’s humanistic education, The BS ES program forms highly competent environmental practitioners who will become leaders in the “greening” of industry, government, business and civil society.

Department of Information Systems and Computer Science

Information systems and computer science has become one of the most important technologies in the 21st century. As a result, there shall be an over-increasing need for competent and highly-trained computer professionals.

As a CHED Center of Development Excellence, the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS) offers state-of-the-art undergraduate programs in Computer Science and Management Information Systems and a graduate program in Computer Science which aim to produce professionals who are not only able to keep abreast of the rapid developments in in this field, but also able to apply these technologies in a country like the Philippines.

With the new PLDT-Convergent Technologies Center and our new facilities for Wireless Computing, the Ateneo reaffirms its commitment to be a pioneer in the education of tomorrow’s leaders in IT.

Department of Mathematics

Mathematics underpins most of the advances in science and provides important tools for industry, finance and economics. The Ateneo Department of Mathematics,  is a pioneer in the use of mathematics in computer science, management, operations research, finance an computer modelling.

The Mathematics Department, CHED Center of Excellence in Mathematics, provides excellent undergraduate and graduate mathematics training with tis competent faculty and innovative programs. The diversity of research and teaching interests provides many opportunities for students to develop their interests and skills.

Its institutional linkages with Japan, Australia, Singapore, China, France, New Zealand, Germany, and the United States enable the department to be at the cutting-edge of the most recent developments in mathematics.

Department of Physics

The School of Science and Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Physics and Applied Physics to support the rapid developments in the areas of Photonics, Materials Physics and Environmental Physics.

As a CHED Center of Excellence in Physics, the Physics Department boasts of very well-equipped teaching and research laboratories to ensure that our students experience Physics as an experimental science. Computer modeling is also an active area of teaching and research.
