Science and engineering
will continue to define our society in the 21st Century
and the greatest progress is likely to occur in the
interdisciplinary areas shared by the various science
and engineering fields. Recognizing these challenges,
the School of Science and Engineering aims to provide
excellent training for students in basic and applied
disciplines. Indeed, the School's strength is not only
its individual departments but also its active
interdisciplinary undertakings.
Students are
under the care of highly qualified and dedicated
faculty, several of whom have been recognized by various
award-giving bodies. They are assured of an environment
that is conducive to learning and discovery where
research is a key component of their education.
Student training is enhanced by
our excellent laboratory facilities. the School is host
to a number of nationally recognized centers:
 |
The Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and
Physics have been named CHED Centers of Excellence, and
the Department of Information Systems and Computer
Science (DISCS) is a CHED Center of Development
Excellence. |
 |
National Chemistry Instrumentation Center, where the
country's only high-field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
and high-resolution Mass Spectrometer (MS) are housed.
|
 |
The School is also a partner of the Japan Ministry of
Post, enabling the development of satellite
communication in education among the Southeast Asian
countries and Japan. |
 |
The School collaborates closely with the Manila
Observatory on research on climate change and
atmospheric pollution. |
The science
and engineering programs emphasize student-centers
learning and research, mastery and experimentation.
Combined with the well-rounded Ateneo education, these
aim to produce not only excellent scientists and
engineers, but also leaders for society in the 21st
century. |
