European Studies ProgramThe Bachelor of Arts degree in European Studies seeks to create a pool of professionals who can help the country confront the challenges of globalization facing us and tap into myriad opportunities be presented by European Integration. This program will provide students with insights into the richness of European culture and will help them acquire effective communication skills in a European Language other than English. It will also provide students with a macro view of the European Business, Economic and Political Environment, giving them a particular context within which to apply functional area skills provided under either the Business Track or the International Relation Track of the program.
Vision
The A.B. European Studies Program shall lead in the provision of comprehensive knowledge particularly in Philippine-EU Business and International Relations thereby enhancing the Philippines' role in the global community.
Mission
The fundamental mission of the A.B. European Studies program is to develop future professionals who possess a keen understanding of the European Union institutions and processes. This would maximize opportunities provided by the European Union Integration to Philippine business, economic and political environment.
The A.B. European Studies Program
Graduates of the program enjoy the great flexibility of career options. Many can go into the private business sector as experts in finance (such as securities, trading and investment banking) and as projects specialist working for prestigious local and multinational companies (such as land development, corporate planning, etc.). The program also prepares students for other career options such as government service and socially-oriented jobs (such as working for local and international NGO's).
The program can also benefit many students who wish to earn an MBA as well as those who wish to go into the law profession since the legal profession has much to learn from the science and art of economics.
Finally, the strong foreign language and culture component gives the students an edge and the opportunity to travel through the Summer Study Tour to Europe and many scholarships offered by European institutions. The course also provides a rich experiential approach in:
- A Summer Study Tour to Europe.
- A practicum in European companies and institutions.
- A semester of a series of lectures by experts on Europe from the outside
Two Tracks of the ProgramBusiness Track
The business track aims to provide students with a better understanding of the European business context and the trends in financial and economic policy that will shape this context. It also seeks to provide students with the functional area skills that will enable them to determine the appropriate responses for companies wishing to do business within this context.
International Relations Track
The international relations track aims to provide students with a theoretical and practical framework for their professional activity, based on a knowledge of the socio-political, economic and legal situation in the contemporary international scene. It also intends to provide students with a knowledge of international institutions and their policies of cooperation between Europe and Asia, specifically with the Philippines.
