Department of HistoryHistory is the academic discipline that seeks to understand the past. How essential such an understanding is can be gathered from Rizal's words that a man who does not know his country's past is like a man without a soul. At the Ateneo de Manila University, History forms an integral part of the Liberal Arts program, which by its choice of subjects, attempts to present a total view of man.
Recognizing the importance of History in the general education of its students, the Loyola Schools requires students in all academic programs to take nine units of History.
Outer Core (3 units)
Hi 16 - Asian History or
Hi 18 - Western History
Inner Core (6 units)
Hi 165 - Rizal and the Emergence of the Philippine Nation
Hi 166 - Philippine History
