Situation Report (290107)

SECURITY: ANELIE S. TOMELDEN was apprehended last 12 July 2006 at the College Cafeteria for stealing a coed's Nokia 7610 cell phone. No charges were filed as the cell phone was returned and she was released by the police. She was warned not to return on campus.

Copied from page 2 of the Situation Report dated 12 July 2006.

Last Tuesday, 23 January she was again seen by an undercover lady guard loitering at the EDSA walk in the college complex. The suspect was apprehended between Kostka Hall and the MVP Leadership Center standing beside a pile of student things. Fortunately, she was apprehended before she could steal anything. She was again warned not to return on campus.

ANELIE/ANALIE S. TOMELDEN
31 years old, resident of 39 Lilak St., West Fairview, Quezon City

The community is requested to call campus security immediately If the suspect is seen on campus again.
A Loyola Schools maintenance personnel found a wallet inside the men's toilet on the first floor of MVP Leadership Center at 7:15 p.m. last Friday, 26 January. On checking the wallet for the identity of the owner, the personnel found dried marijuana leaves and a cigarette metal pipe. The wallet was traced to a student assisting the Philosophy Alumni Homecoming Night at the MVP LC roof deck.

When confronted, the student admitted to owning the wallet which he claimed he must have dropped inside the toilet when he changed his clothes for the affair on the roof deck. He maintained however, that the marijuana leaves and pipe belonged to his friend, a UP student who was also assisting in the affair.

The UP student was summoned and confronted. He admitted owning the marijuana leaves and the cigarette pipe and that he entrusted these to his friend for safekeeping. When the UP student's things were examined, the guards found 60 (sixty) pieces of marijuana seeds shown below:

The investigation was conducted in the presence of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and his assistant. Both students admitted possession but denied using the illegal drug on campus. The Ateneo student will undergo drug tests and face the Disciplinary Committee. UP authorities will also be informed of the incident.

TRAFFIC: The heavy traffic early Friday morning, 26 January was due to an accident near the exit of Gate 3.5. Two vehicles were involved in a minor accident. However, the drivers of the vehicles disagreed on who was at fault and did not move their vehicles. It was only when the traffic investigator came after 25 minutes that traffic moved. One accident can easily cause a traffic gridlock on Katipunan.

Another accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. last Saturday, 27 January on the northbound lane of the flyover. A Honda Civic driven by an Ateneo student changing lane was hit by a ten-wheeler Isuzu truck. Traffic build-up due to the accident did not last very long. Both drivers proceeded to Camp Karingal for further investigation.

Pictures of the accident. Blue arrow in the middle picture shows the Honda Civic in relation to the Isuzu truck.

On campus accidents: Minor accidents on campus also delay traffic. Two accidents occurred this morning. In most cases, cars do not allow adequate space between them as shown below:

Pedestrian Lanes: Numerous complaints have been received about reckless drivers and near -accidents involving pedestrians. It is fortunate that no serious accident has occurred. In the Loyola Heights campus, PEDESTRIANS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. More efforts will be exerted by campus security to enforce this.

PARKING: The area beside the diversion road (parallel to Katipunan) has been cleared of earth mounds and plants have been relocated. The diversion road is lighted at night by the Katipunan street lights.

The current lamppost beside the diversion road will be relocated and aligned to light the cars parked near the tree line. This is for the security of parked cars. Relocation of the lamppost was started over the weekend and should be completed in a week's time.

More lights will be installed in carparks to reduce car break-ins, robberies and mugging. Unfortunately, there are still students who insist on parking at isolated and inadequately lighted areas. To reduce the potential for crime and sexual misconduct cases against students, several areas will be designated no parking zones after 6:00 p.m.

In particular, areas of the Northwest carpark near the creek, behind the pile of cut tree branches and near the compost pit shown below are designated no parking zones after 6:00 p.m.

Campus security will include these areas during their evening inspections.
