Llarena, Macasaet win golds for PH in online Asian TKD tourney

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School taekwondo jins Lucas Llarena (Cardoner/7-Alonso in school year 2020-2021), Niko Macasaet (La Storta/9-Favre), and Max Favila (La Storta/7-Claver) won at least one medal each for the Philippines in the Smart MVPSF Asian Online Open Taekwondo Poomsae and Speed Kicking Championships, which were held from July 10 – 12, 2021. Leading with two medals won was Lucas Llarena, who grabbed a gold for speed kicking in the cadet male black feather A category, and a silver for poomsae in the same category. Also winning gold for speed kicking was Niko Macasaet, who competed in the junior male light middle weight group C category. Bagging bronze for speed kicking in his very first international tournament was Max Favila, who competed in the cadet male black belt heavyweight B category.

More than 2,500 jins from Bahrain, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taipei, and Vietnam participated in the tournament.

Lucas, Niko and Max are coached by Jobet Morales, Elmer Rafael, and Joey Paja.

Max and Lucas will be in grade 8 in school year 2021-2022, while Niko will be in grade 10.
