The following are the objectives of the team:

  1. Propose a GenAI Course Policy (i.e. policy on the acceptable use of GenAI in Ateneo education) and conduct consultations for the adoption of this Policy;
  2. Examine ways by which we can re-construct our instructional model using GenAI;
  3. Propose courses which can train our faculty on how to utilize GenAI in their teaching and instruction;
  4. Examine ways by which we can train our students to be ethical and humane users of AI;
  5. Design a roadmap regarding online and onsite classes and using current technology like Canvas and Zoom;
  6. Examine the prospects of offering micro-credentials online

I have requested the Task Force to discuss the following questions:

  1. How can educators help students harness AI for greater learning outcomes?
  2. Does our definition of integrity need to evolve along with the advancement of AI technologies?
  3. How do universities need to adapt their policies on IP and plagiarism?
  4. How do you see generative AI changing the practice of academic research and integrity?

In preparing their proposals and recommendations, I have requested the Task Force to consult our different stakeholders including administrators and faculty, especially the VP-DITS, AVP-UEd and AVP GradEd.

The Task Force will fulfill their mandate and submit their report to the Office of the President by 30 September 2023.

I thank the members of the Task Force for their Ignatian generosity in taking on this important service for the University that will contribute greatly in advancing our strategic priority area on Education Reform and Transformation.

I ask for your usual prayers and support as we reflect on how to develop a responsible and ethical approach to this powerful and emerging technology in our learned ministry.

Ad majorem Dei gloriam

(Sgd) Roberto C Yap SJ
