Dr. Francis M. Navarro, University Archivist, will provide a short introduction to Pedro Paterno (AB 1871), the most prominent member of the Paterno Family, and an overview of the significance of the Pact of Biak-na-Bato in Philippine history.
The Documents of Pact of Biak-na-Bato are part of the Collection that is being made available by the Paterno Family to promote the study and appreciation of history among the Filipino youth. The Paterno Family Collection will be preserved at the Rizal Library and the University Archives, and will soon be available online and onsite for faculty, students, and researchers from the Ateneo community and elsewhere.
The Paterno Family Collection includes personal papers, photographs, and other materials from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. Some of the more valuable items are documents related to the Pact of Biak-na-Bato, first editions of Ninay (1885) and Sampaguitas (1880), sketchpads with drawings by Juan Luna, and a letter from Jose Rizal to Pedro Paterno.
